On November 18th and 19th, the 2019 International Forum on Mesoscopic Brain Connectome was held in the Center for Excellence in Brain Science and Intelligence Technology (CEBSIT) and Institute of Neuroscience (ION), Chinese Academy of Sciences. The forum was chaired by Prof. Muming Poo (Director of ION and CEBSIT) and co-sponsored by the Science and Technology Commission Shanghai Municipality (STCSM), CEBSIT, ION and State Key Laboratory of Neuroscience.
The State Council Information Office of China holds a seminar to focus on the Chinese Academy of Sciences' scientific achievements during the past seven decades, Nov. 19, 2019. BAI Chunli, President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, WANG Keqiang, Deputy Secretary General of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, POO Muming, Director of the Institute of Neuroscience, CAS, participated in this seminar.
On November 18th, the 2019 award ceremony of Ho Leung Ho Lee (HLHL) Foundation was held in Beijing, and 56scientists won the 2019 HLHL awards. Dr. YANG Hui from CEBSIT won the "Science and Technology Progress Award". Dr. LIU Zhen from CEBSIT won the "science and Technology Innovation Award".
On Nov. 14th -15th 2019,YANG Hui visited the Royal Society of the United Kingdom, the U.S. National Academy of Medicine and the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and attended the international human germline genome editing commission.
Collège de France academic year inaugural colloquium was held at Paris, France on October 9-11, 2019. The theme of this colloquium is “Research and innovation: what future?” Prof. Mu-ming Poo was invited to attend this event by Prof. Alain Prochiantz, president of College de France. He gave a lecture entitled “Of monkeys and men – Use of non-human primates for studying human biology and diseases”.
On Sep 27th 2019,YANG Hui visited Yonsei University College of Medicine and gave a lecture entitled “Perfecting Targeting in CRISPR’’.
Prof. Mu-ming Poo co-chaired the International Brain Initiative (IBI) Session and gave a presentation during this session. The IBI session is a special program of the 10th IBRO World Congress of Neuroscience (IBRO 2019), which was held at Daugu, Korea on September 21-25, 2019.
Tuebingen, Germany on September 16 -19, 2019. The lecture was entitled “Non-human primate studies in neuroscience and biomedicine”.
The 13th Biennial Conference of Chinese Neuroscience Society (CNS 2019) was held at Suzhou during October 10th to 13th, 2019. About 100 CEBSIT / ION researchers attended this conference and presented their recent progress.
Prof. Jiawei Zhou participated the 10th IBRO World Congress of Neuroscience which was held in Sept. 21-25, 2019 in Daegu, Korea. He organized and chaired a symposium entitled ‘The role of NG2 glia in brain disorders’ which was well received by the audience. During the symposium, he gave a presentation showing a novel function of NG2 glia in the regulation of brain innate immunity and its implication for Parkinson’s disease.
Professor Jiawei Zhou was invited to participate the 2nd Sino-German Symposium on Cell Fate and Tumorigenesis: From Models to Human Diseases, which took place in Homburg, Germany in early September of 2019. He gave an informative presentation during the meeting, describing their recent findings on the role of NG2 glia, the fourth type of glial cells in the CNS, in the regulation of brain innate immunity.
During Sep 23-25, 2019, Dr. QIU Zilong was invited to attend the 10th IBRO Word Congress of Neuroscience held by International Brain Research Organization in South Korea , and gave a talk entitled “Understanding the genetic architecture of autism”.

Prof. Mu-ming Poo gave a keynote lecture during the 2019 World AI Conference, in the Brain-Inspired Artificial Intelligence and Collective Intelligence Forum, which was held at Shanghai Expo Center on August 30th, 2019.
The twelfth Sino-German Frontiers of Science Symposium (SINOGFOS) was held in Lübeck, Germany from May 23 to 26, 2019. German and Chinese young scientists had a cross-disciplinary discussion on six cutting-edging scientific topics including Cell Imaging at the Atomic Resolution, Deep Brain Stimulation, Exoplanet Finding, Genome Editing, Reconstructing Ancient Climates, and Robots and Autonomous Systems. Dr YE Zheng co-chaired this year’s symposium and organized the Deep Brain Stimulation session.
