The 2010 Shanghai Symposium on Frontiers of Neuroscience was held at the SIBS Lecture Hall on April 18th. Ten professors gave exciting talks on topics ranging from molecular to systems neuroscience.
On April 8, Prof. James Watson, Emeritus President of the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, Nobel Laureate and co-discoverer of the DNA double helix, visited ION. Prof. Mu-Ming Poo hosted his visit, and together with some ION faculty members, held a discussion with Prof. Watson on recent progress in neuroscience research.
The Second Academic Committee Meeting of the State Key Laboratory of Neuroscience (SKLN) was held at the Institute of Neuroscience on March 19th, 2010.
On Feb 25, 2010, Circulation Research published online a research article from ION entitled "TRPC1 is Essential for In Vivo Angiogenesis in Zebrafish". This work was carried out by Peng-chun Yu, Shan-ye Gu and Ji-wen Bu from the laboratory of Dr. Jiu-lin Du.
On Feb 3, 2010, the Journal of Neuroscience published a research article from ION entitled "Synaptic Mechanisms of Direction Selectivity in Primary Auditory Cortex".
On January 27, 2010, the Journal of Neuroscience published a research article entitled "Expression of β-Amyloid Induced Age-Dependent Presynaptic and Axonal Changes in Drosophila". This paper is highlighted in "This Week in The Journal".
On Dec 16, 2009, the Journal of Neuroscience published a full research article from ION entitled "GABA Transporter-1 Activity Modulates Hippocampal Theta Oscillation and Theta Burst Stimulation-Induced Long-Term Potentiation".
An ION Council was held on December 5 in Shanghai. Council members, including Profs. Jian-Guo Hou, Qi-Shui Lin, Gang Pei, Mu-Ming Poo, Xian-En Zhang, Zhi-Bing Zhang and Zuo-Yan Zhu attended the meeting. Mr. Jian-Xin Zhang, Mrs. Li-Ping Wang and Mrs. Feng Zhang also attended this meeting.
On Nov 24, 2009, the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences published online a research article from ION entitled "PKCδ Regulates Cortical Radial Migration by Stabilizing the Cdk5 Activator P35".
As part of a major drive for excellence in basic research in the new millennium, the Chinese Academy of Sciences founded the Institute of Neuroscience (ION) on November 27, 1999. Today is the 10 years old birthday of ION, we hope our institute will be better and better in the future.
On November 11, 2009, a delegation from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology Delegation from Korea visited ION. Drs. Shu-Min Duan, Zhen-Ge Luo and Xiang Yu hosted their visit, and Dr. Xiang Yu gave a brief description of current research at ION.
On Oct 21, 2009, the Journal of Neuroscience published a full research article from ION entitled "Endocannabinoid-Dependent Homeostatic Regulation of Inhibitory Synapses by Miniature Excitatory Synaptic Activities".
The 2009 ION-NPAS-HKUST-NIMH Joint "Symposium on Frontiers in Neuroscience", between ION, NPAS, HKUST and NIMH was held at the SIBS Lecture Hall from September 24th to 27th. From September 25th to 27th, 35 faculty members presented their recent works.
In September 2009, the Chinese Academy of Sciences announced the awardees of the 2009 CAS Scholarships. Eight ION students were recipients of these scholarships.
Dr. Chen-Bing Guan's Ph.D. thesis was selected by the Ministry of Education of China as the 2009 Top 100 Ph.D. Thesis in China.
