A lab manager position is open in the Laboratory of Neural Dynamics of Visual Perception and Cognition (http://english.cebsit.cas.cn/lab/VishalKapoor/research/). The lab is led by Dr. Vishal Kapoor at the International Center for Primate Brain Research (ICPBR). ICPBR, co-directed by Prof. Mu-Ming Poo and Prof. Nikos K. Logothetis, and affiliated with the Center for Excellence in Brain Science and Intelligence Technology (CEBSIT, http://english.cebsit.cas.cn/), the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Shanghai is a newly established international research facility for conducting highest-level primate brain research.
The lab aims to combine psychophysical paradigms and behavior with state-of-the-art electrophysiological and computational approaches to study the neural basis of conscious visual perception and disambiguate these neural processes from those underlying cognition. The projects in the lab employ techniques, ranging from multi-regional, multi-electrode array neurophysiological recordings in non-human primates to eye tracking, behavioral monitoring and EEG in humans.
Position Description:
The candidate shall be responsible for all aspects of the lab’s management, including but not limited to:
1. Orientation of lab personnel including administrative and travel arrangements.
2. Purchasing of reagents, equipment and maintenance.
3. Management of all lab resources in order to ensure a highly efficient lab operation.
4. Administrative liaison with appropriate organizational structures.
5. The candidate will be responsible for handling any other lab-related matters that the PI sees appropriate, including accommodating visiting scientists and students, coordinating with other labs for equipment usage and sharing, etc.
6. There will be opportunity for the candidate to be involved in research activities at all levels, ranging from experimental preparation, recruiting human subjects and data collection, and preprocessing.
Qualifications and Requirements:
1. Bachelor (or higher) degree in biology, neuroscience, psychology, computer science, veterinary science, engineering or a related field.
2. Excellent speaking, reading, and writing skills in both Chinese and English. The candidate is expected to handle all the lab management tasks that require Chinese in place of the PI.
3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
4. Proficiency in using basic computer programs (including Microsoft Office). Ability to program in other languages is a plus.
5. Ability to work independently and efficiently, with good work ethics and with a spirit of teamwork.
6. Previous experience in a manager/assistant position is preferable but not required.
7. Experience in laboratory methods is preferable but not required.
