The first meeting of the Third ION Council was held at ION on November 29. Council members including Profs. Jian-Guo Hou (University of Science and Technology of China), Qi-Shui Lin (Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, CAS), Gang Pei (Tong Ji University), Mu-Ming Poo (Institute of Neuroscience, CAS), Xiao-Ming Shen (Shanghai Jiao Tong University), Yan Shen (National Natural Science Foundation of China), Xian-En Zhang (The Ministry of Science and Technology of China) and Zuo-Yan Zhu (Institute of Hydrobiology, CAS) attended the meeting. After listening to reports by the directors of ION and the State Key Laboratory of Neuroscience (SKLN), council members met in closed session and gave recommendations for the future development of ION and SKLN.

In the afternoon, Drs. Yu-Qiang Ding, Zhen-Ge Luo, Ai-Ke Guo and Zhi-Qi Xiong presented the research progresses in the four current ION divisions. Their presentations were followed by thoughtful comments and discussions from Council members.
